Let's start with just that...
I Want to Talk About You...a song written by
Billy Eckstine and
made popular by John Coltrane I'm pretty sure.
The first version on the tune I ever heard was from
Chip White's Harlem Sunset cd. I fell in love with it right away.

I have since listened to
John Coltrane's version that I found on the cd called
John Coltrane Plays For Lovers. Of course it is very nice, but in my humble opinion, the Chip White version has more soul to it. I want to feel that same ache, but I just don't.

Now
BillyEckstine's original version with his orchestra of
I Want To Talk About You is 'Swingin'! Eckstine himself sings this hoppin' tune. His voice is deep and rich (kinda like Johhny Hartman) I like this style...it's just that I heard the Chip White style first and became a romantic one for me with the "slow-dance" type of sound that I like.

Pianist, John Hicks knows how to get romance out of this song. It doesn't exactly have the "soul" that I mentioned in the Chip White version (the one where I ache), but it gives an uplifting type of soul sound.

I'd like to learn what version of the song you have. Do you like it? Why? Why not? Have you heard the four versions I mentioned here? Do you agree with my thoughts? I'd love to hear from you.
